On multiple occasions a few of our turtles have been found underwater! The turtles will tuck themselves underneath fallen branches and logs to keep them submerged. This behavior is strange for the Eastern box turtle, which is usually thought of as a predominantly terrestrial species. In the photo you can see Byars submerged in the water under a branch. In the video you can see Waddles making a break for it after we pulled her out of the water to check her transmitter. Look at her go!
